Oogie Boogie Night Awaits!

You can’t boogie without some Oogie.

Are you ready to split some seams? Shake in your shoes? How about you snack on a batch of snake and spider stew?

Kumamoto guys and ghouls are invited to food bar JOHN ROE in Kumamoto City to celebrate Halloween this year, KumAJET-style! Reunite with the friends you’ve made on JET, make new friends with the Kumamoto locals, chit-chat, get down, and dig in to some otsumami!

The highlight of the night will include a Halloween Costume Contest where we will award prizes through a ballot system for the Cutest Costume, Scariest Costume, and the Most Creative. While you do not have to dress up to attend this event, we encourage you to dive into the spirit of Halloween and get dolled up.

While party time is drawing near, rest easy–you still have some time to throw something together for the party! Do you need some ideas for what to wear? What can you do that’s simple, cheap, and creative?

Check out these tips from PopSugar,  Woman’s Day, and Buzzfeed for costume inspiration. You can also scope out your local 100-yen shops (like Daiso, Seria, or Watts) for affordable costume pieces and makeup. Amazon Japan’s also got some decent deals at their Halloween Store if you want to go all fancy-schmancy.  No matter what, have fun with it!

🦇Mark your calendars for October 28 at 7:30pm and read more about KumAJET’s event here.🦇

How do I RSVP?

Email KumAJET to let us know that you will attend, then hop over to the Group Facebook page and mark yourself as “Going.” (If you don’t have Facebook, no worries! Just shoot us an email at kumajet@ajet.net to let us know what’s what).

How much does it cost?

1600 yen gets you all-you-can drink with otsumami, the delightful Japanese snacks often served with beer. Please note, otsumami is snack food, not dinner, so if you’re looking for an actual meal, please load up before you come to the party.

What should I bring?

The Best Fest in the Galaxy! Are you ready?!

Kuma Fest 2017 graphic by Rawoul Sanchez.

KumAJET is proud to sponsor a brand-new event to bring Kumamoto JETs and the community together! This weekend is our first-ever Kuma Fest!!

We’re seeking out new life and new civilizations to boldly go where KumAJETs have never gone before: the largest active caldera on the planet!

Kuma Fest is an outdoor music festival, backyard barbecue party, summer camp, and stargazer’s paradise all rolled into one! We’ve rented out an entire amphitheater and campground to make this an event like nothing you’ve ever seen before!

Mark your calendar for September 30 and October 1, and read more about this galactic party here.

How do I RSVP?

Head over to KumAJET’s public Facebook group and check out the event page for Kuma Fest 2017 to register your interest. If you don’t have Facebook you can have someone RSVP on your behalf, or shoot us an email at kumajet@ajet.net.

Staying overnight at camp is optional, but the tents we provide are first-come, first-serve and you have to comment on the Facebook group page to reserve a spot in the tent. Of course, you can always bring your own!

We are also taking music requests for the amphitheater event. If you have any special requests, please leave a comment on the Facebook event here.

How much does it cost?

Admission is ¥1,000* per person!

*Depending on the circumstance, admission may be bumped to ¥1300 to cover the cost of tents should KumAJET have to purchase more of them for the event. Please read about this here.

What should I bring?

  • Bring your own food and drink
  • Bring your own bedding
  • Bring your own cooking supplies (grill, utensils, etc.) or rent grills and charcoal from the amphitheater (see this post and comment if interested)
  • Anything you think would be fun to do outdoors (for example, KumAJET will have a slip n slide set up)! Sparklers are ok, but no fireworks or explosives, please!

When and where is Kuma Fest 2017?

Kuma Fest is held at the ASPECTA  amphitheater in Minamiaso.

  • Check-in time: September 30, 4:00 pm
  • Check-out time: October 1, 11:00 am

The Beach Party’s almost here! RSVP Today!

ashikita_flyer_2017The first major KumAJET event of the year is creeping up on us: the Ashikita Beach Party!

The Ashikita Beach Party is open to all! Mingle with Japanese, JETs, and other members of the Kumamoto community. Come enjoy the surf and turf, load up on the BBQ, take in the nighttime stars, and bask in the light of the ocean fireflies.

You can visit the beach party for the day, or spend the night in the cabins (first-come, first-serve to those who RSVP by September 2).

How do I RSVP?

Easy! Send an email to kumajet@ajet.net with your name and whether or not you’ll be spending the night. If you want a cabin, you need to RSVP! Please email us by September 2.

How much does it cost?

If you want to visit for the day, admission is 500 yen. If you want to stay overnight, admission is 2500 yen. You’ll pay at the door and you’ll get a handy-dandy wristband!

What should I bring?

KumAJET’s happy to help you out! We’ll take care of some of the basics for the BBQ, like charcoal, lighters, charcoal boxes, etc.  We ask that you bring your own food and beverages.

For those spending the night, each cabin sleeps 8 and comes with futons, though you are welcome to bring your own bedding and additional pillows if you like.

Fireworks are a no-go unless they’re hand-held (like sparklers).

Don’t forget swimsuits and plenty of sunscreen!

When and where is the Beach Party?

Ashikita Beach Party is held at Otachimisaki Park.

Members of KumAJET will be standing by to help check you in. We’ll be wearing bright red shirts with the KumAJET logo in white–you can’t miss us!
